400 citizens involved. 7 projects developed.

MONCALIERI – Save the date: Monday, June 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the library, for the launch of the Action Plan for Inclusion and Gender Equality. This document, championed from the very beginning by Councillor Antonella Parigi, represents a crucial piece of a broader cultural revolution. After seven months of listening, dialogue, and participatory planning, on June 30 the Municipality will present its first Gender Equality Plan: a strategic tool designed to build a more equitable, inclusive, and cohesive city — in other words, a city more attentive to women.

The Plan is the result of a process that actively involved citizens, schools, institutions, associations, and social services. It represents a civic alliance that has transformed needs, visions, and ideas into practical proposals, putting equality at the center as a driver of collective well-being and urban development.

The participatory process engaged nearly 400 residents through a public survey, while three working groups involved over 40 participants, including teachers, representatives from the third sector, and various associations. The work focused on three main areas: Culture and Information; Education and Training; and finally, Prevention, Safety, Services, and Support.

In short, Moncalieri aims to position itself as a model for gender policies and social innovation, fully aligned with European and international goals as well as Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). Key actions include institutional communication free from stereotypes, educational programs starting from early childhood, support for parenting, professional training for service providers, gender-based violence prevention, and strengthening local services. All of this is supported by a participatory governance model. The Plan is intended not as a static document, but as an evolving process enriched by community-driven proposals, to move from words to action.

Seven specific projects have been designed to meet the community’s needs:

  1. Say It Right/Upskilling and Support: for inclusive and accessible public communication, free from discrimination and able to foster participation from all.

  2. You, Them, and Others: to promote inclusive citizenship through alliances between schools, families in all their forms, institutions, and associations.

  3. 18+: a program to support new adults in developing autonomy, relational well-being, and civic awareness.

  4. Friendly Neighborhood: to build neighborhood educational networks that support school integration and celebrate diversity as a value.

  5. C.A.R.E – Community, Welcome, Network, and Evolution: a multifunctional space for listening and support, created through collaboration among local organizations and entities.

  6. Living Together: an innovative model of solidarity-based co-housing to overcome housing vulnerabilities and foster mutual support relationships.

  7. Community Antennas: volunteers able to detect needs and vulnerabilities and guide people toward services.

With this Plan, Moncalieri takes a significant step forward toward becoming a city that recognizes and values differences as a resource. We wanted to build a participatory and shared process because inclusion is not just a principle to be stated, but a cultural change to be built every day. Our goal is to create a community where every person feels fully represented, respected, and engaged,” emphasizes Councillor for Equal Opportunities Antonella Parigi.
