The new Ethics Code of Confindustria Assoconsult, the association representing Italian consulting companies, a fragmented market with approximately 18,000 companies, 85% of which operate with less than three employees, was recently launched. The document focuses on four cardinal principles - accountability, autonomy, trust and integrity - indicating good practices and correct behaviour to be followed in the exercise of the profession.

'The Code of Ethics will be both an integral part of competence and an enrichment and supplement to the right approach to companies,' stresses association president Ezio Lattanzio. He goes on to emphasise that 'consultancy, in order to grow, needs a good
reputation and the public's view of the sector is sometimes ambiguous: compliance with the Code will help to clarify between good and bad consultancy, qualifying the entire sector'. There will be an experimental period until 30 June 2015: until then the sanctioning rules will not apply.
