Lattanzio KIBS assists ARES Sardegna in the design and production of the digital Module C of the PNRR M6C2 course on healthcare-associated infections

The Regional Health Agency (ARES) of Sardinia, an integral part of both the National and Regional Health Service, has launched a strategic project to strengthen the training of healthcare and social-health professionals on the topic of hospital infections, in line with Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This initiative arises from the urgent need to counter healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), one of the most critical challenges for patient safety and quality of care. The investment, included in Mission 6, Health of the PNRR, aims to train approximately 150,000 operators by 2024 and more than 140,000 by 2026, ensuring a widespread dissemination of the necessary skills across different hospital settings.

More details

The two-hour course specifically addresses topics such as the organization of prevention strategies, structure and process indicators for HAI control, and an in-depth analysis of the main categories of hospital infections (surgical site infections, sepsis, CRE-related bloodstream infections). To meet the needs of an audience composed of healthcare and social-health professionals, the content has been developed with an innovative educational approach based on the learning-by-doing paradigm. The course integrates emotional videos, graphic illustrations, and game-inspired models such as scenarios, simulations, interactive clinical cases, and procedural lessons. The intervention included the analysis of materials provided by the institution, macro-design based on usability and accessibility criteria, the creation of storyboards, graphic interfaces and multimedia content, as well as the development of SCORM 1.2 packages interoperable with LMS platforms. Learning objects were made accessible via both desktop and mobile devices, with usability, accessibility, and compatibility testing on major browsers.

Project Impact

The contribution of Lattanzio KIBS enables ARES and the Sardinian healthcare system to deliver an advanced digital training model, capable of fostering active and engaging learning, enhancing the effectiveness of knowledge transfer, and encouraging the participation of healthcare professionals. Ultimately, this strengthens infection prevention and control, while improving the organizational capacity of healthcare facilities and the safety of care, in line with the objectives of the PNRR.
