Gender Equality & Women Empowerment: not a privilege, a right.

Gender Equality refers to the equality of women and men with respect to their rights, treatment, responsibilities, opportunities, economic and social performance. Equality is achieved when men and women have the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities in all areas of society and when different interests, needs and priorities are equally valued.

Since 1948, Article 3 of the Italian Constitution has enshrined full equality among citizens without distinction of sex, race, language, religion, political opinion, personal or social conditions. Today, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2015) commits to ensure gender equality in access to education and health care, in the workplace and within political and economic decision-making bodies, and the empowerment of all women and girls by 2030, as:

'Gender equality is a fundamental value of the European Union and a universally recognised human right, but it is also an imperative for well-being and for economic growth, prosperity, good governance, peace and security. All people, each in their diversity, should be free to live their lives according to their individual choices, to prosper socially and economically, to participate and to lead as equals.'

Our know how

Over the years, Lattanzio KIBS has collaborated with multiple bodies to contribute to the achievement of gender equality, at a national level with the Prime Minister's Office and the provinces, at an international level with European bodies such as UNICEF, UN Women and the Commission.

With more than 20 projects in the last period of activity on the theme of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, Lattanzio KIBS makes its knowledge of evaluation methods and tools for gender mainstreaming available as a founding principle for strengthening the capacity of administrations involved in the management of EU funds and the achievement of equal opportunities.

Since 2017, Lattanzio KIBS has adhered to the UN Global Compact to support and implement its ten fundamental human rights principles, including Gender Equality (5).

Following the principle, in 2023, Lattanzio KIBS received recognition as part of the "Tech by Her" initiative sponsored by the University of Bari and Confindustria Bari e BAT, for being among the first companies in the Puglia region to have obtained the Certification for Gender Equality.

Thanks to its commitment to Gender Mainstreaming for the Department of Equal Opportunity, on May 10, 2024 Lattanzio KIBS is invited to the Festival of Sustainable Development for the presentation of the 2021-2022 Gender Balance of the Region of Puglia.

Since 2016, Lattanzio KIBS has also been one of the signatories of the WEPs Charter, initiated by UN Women with the Global Compact, which promotes gender equality through an inclusive corporate culture, fair management and support for women's training and professional advancement.

The Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) define women's empowerment according to the following criteria:

1. Establishing high-level corporate leadership for gender equality
2. Treat all women and men equally at work - respect and uphold human rights and non-discrimination
3. Ensure the health, safety and welfare of all workers
4. Promote the education, training and professional development of women
5. Implement business, supply chain and marketing growth practices that empower women
6. Promote equality through community and advocacy initiatives
7. Measure and publicly report progress towards achieving gender equality

Research for the European Stability Mechanism

Following the creation of a Gender Mainstreaming Evaluation Toolkit for the Department for Equal Opportunities, Lattanzio KIBS continues its research on the subject.

The model offers a tool to support evaluation from a gender equality perspective as well as suitable operational and methodological solutions to start the process of creating the Gender Budgeting.
