Integrating Environmental Sustainability into the 2023–2027 EAFRD Programming

For the 2023-2027 programming period, Regione Lombardia has launched a process aimed at strengthening the integration of environmental sustainability into rural development policies. The goal is to promote more sustainable production and territorial models, enhance natural resources, and increase the resilience of rural areas, in line with European and national sustainability strategies.

Through a highly specialized technical assistance service, Lattanzio KIBS supports the Regional Environmental Authority in monitoring the environmental and climate dimensions of the 2023-2027 EAFRD PSP-CSR. The intervention is designed to steer programming towards the sustainable management of natural resources (such as soil, water, air, and landscape), improve the coherence between regional environmental policies and rural development instruments, and foster the dissemination and capitalization of good environmental practices emerging from funded projects.

The service also includes information, support, and outreach activities through meetings, communication materials, and awareness initiatives on the environmental impacts of the CSR, as well as internal training activities. At the same time, the project ensures continuous coordination with regional planning, maintaining alignment with the Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development and the evolving framework of the European Green Deal. A key component of the support is also dedicated to post-2027 programming, through the analysis of achieved results and the capitalization of lessons learned, laying solid foundations for the future regional rural and environmental strategy.

Project Impact

The project makes a significant contribution to strengthening Regione Lombardia’s capacity to integrate environmental sustainability into its rural development policies, enhancing the effectiveness of the EAFRD’s contribution to climate, environmental, and biodiversity goals.

Through Lattanzio KIBS’ technical assistance, the Regional Environmental Authority benefits from updated operational tools and knowledge to improve environmental governance, promote sustainable agricultural models, and encourage the dissemination of good practices among territories and local actors. In doing so, the project consolidates a long-term strategic approach that sees sustainability as a cross-cutting driver of competitiveness, innovation, and quality of life in Lombardy’s rural areas.
