Lattanzio KIBS supports UNHCR in a multi-country project to identify investment and productive inclusion opportunities for refugees, internally displaced people and host communities in West and Central Africa

In the fragile and protracted crisis contexts of West and Central Africa, the economic inclusion of forcibly displaced people is a strategic priority for sustainability, self-reliance and social cohesion. In line with the Global Compact on Refugees and the sustainable response approach promoted by the institution, the Regional Bureau for West and Central Africa launched a sectoral assessment project in Burkina Faso, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic. The goal is to identify economically sustainable value chains and sectors - agriculture, renewable energy and digital services - able to generate employment and attract private investment for the benefit of refugees, internally displaced people, returnees and host communities.

More details

Lattanzio KIBS's work is based on an integrated methodological approach combining Market Systems Analysis, Value Chain Analysis and Economic Inclusion, structured in an initial phase defining the analytical framework and quality plan, followed by the identification of priority value chains in the four countries in relation to the distribution of displaced populations and the characteristics of host settings.

The methodology combines desk review, interviews with public and private stakeholders, focus groups and field observation, with quantitative and qualitative analysis aimed at developing market system maps, feasibility assessments and country business cases oriented towards private sector engagement.

Lattanzio KIBS ensures the technical, financial and operational management of the assignment, methodological coordination and quality control, data management supervision and validation of analytical outputs, ensuring the consistency, rigour and reliability of the results presented to the institution and to regional stakeholders.

Project Impact

Thanks to this work, the institution and the institutional partners involved gain solid, comparable evidence to guide investment strategies, design targeted interventions and activate public-private partnerships in the identified sectors.

The sector analyses and business cases developed open the way to concrete employment and income opportunities for forcibly displaced people and the communities that host them, helping to strengthen the economic resilience of the territories involved and extend the benefits of development to a growing number of people across the region.
