Protecting Biodiversity in the South Adriatic with Regione Puglia

LASPEH 2.0 is a European project co-funded under the IPA instrument for the South Adriatic, dedicated to respecting and protecting priority species and habitats in the region's protected areas, in response to the biodiversity loss affecting the entire Adriatic basin. The objective is shared management for the protection of unique species and habitats, from sub-Mediterranean grasslands to coastal lagoons, overcoming the administrative borders that currently fragment their protection. Funded under the Interreg VI-A IPA South Adriatic 2021-2027 Programme, the project reflects the decision of Regione Puglia, lead partner of a transnational partnership between Italy, Montenegro and Albania, to rely on a technical partner for the project's governance.

Lattanzio KIBS accompanies the entire project pathway, bringing together the five South Adriatic partners within a single organisational framework. It all starts with ongoing dialogue among the parties involved: partnership meetings, regular exchanges and careful monitoring of activities keep every phase moving in line with shared objectives. Building on this, financial oversight ensures, over time, full traceability of European funds and administrative solidity. Finally, communication gives the project voice and visibility: it tells the story of conservation actions, raises awareness across territories, and provides scientific support for aligning park management plans with the new EU Nature Restoration Law.

Project Impact

Thanks to Lattanzio KIBS's contribution, Regione Puglia can rely on a cooperation model capable of generating concrete, lasting results across a territory shared by several countries. The communities of the South Adriatic benefit first: their ecosystems grow more resilient, and awareness of the natural heritage around them grows too. But the outlook reaches beyond local borders: the project strengthens Italy's role in cross-border cooperation and contributes to the EU's biodiversity protection goals set for 2030.
